Car Boot Sales

Forthcoming Car Boot Sales – updated 30/5/2012

There are a lot more to be posted here so check back regularly. Also please be sure to check with the organizers if you are travelling a long distance to attend any of these sales as I can’t be responsible for late changes! If you would like your venue listed here, FREE of charge, please email me at collectireland@gmail.com

*If your event is listed here, please, please keep me up to date as it discredits you as well as me if people turn up to find nothing happening! Several recent reports of event failures and, most annoyingly, organisers not answering emails or phonecalls. -  28/5/2012

The car boot sale takes place in a field on the Castlelyons road.  Coming from Cork, turn right at the Rathcormac Inn and the field is located on the right.  It’s well sign posted.

It is advisable to arrive early, especially if the forecast is good. Arriving early means you can choose to set up in a good location.  You need to bring your own display stall.  Some people use tables and others just use a sheet to lay on the grass.  The queue of traders can normally start anywhere from 6am but any time up to 8:30 should be fine.  So, you just need to turn up on Sunday and someone at the gate will point you in the correct direction.

Unyoke Market & Car Boot Sale,

Unyoke, Co.Wexford

Location: Near “The Trading Post” shop/filling station on the (R741) – the  road between Gorey and Wexford via Ballycanew.

Every Sunday from 7.30am – 2.00pm

The Unyoke Market & Car Boot Sale resumed after Christmas on the 16th January, 2011. It’s worth a visit providing it’s dry! It gets very messy and dirty if there’s any rain and as most of the stuff is on the ground as opposed to tables, this is a big disadvantage. Like any market the earlier the better. One of the traders told me that she’s there at 6.30am and dealers would be going through her stuff with a torch. I can be there at any time after 9.00am and it seems to be at its busiest from 9.00 to 11.30. If you arrive after 11.30 some traders are already packing up. Very few collectible stands at this time of year as dealers don’t really start to come down from Dublin until the Spring. However, if you’re prepared to get your hands dirty (literally) you can find anything on the ground around the vans.

*Thanks to Kevin for this recent report.

Thanks for this site, its the best I’ve found! We are regular car boot sellers, heading to Mountrath tomorrow for the first time to check it out! Normally we go Cork/Limerick direction, Blarney is mega on Bank Holiday Mondays and highly recommended, tons of sellers, Castletown Roche and Rathcormac are great also, especially Rathcormac can be great, really huge, last Sunday end of June ’11, in Rathcormac they had let cows in the field recently.. and what do cows leave behind? You got it! Not pleasant, hope they dont do that again. First time saw that. Newcastle West is worth a trip, inside and outside pitches. Thats all my recommendations, hope that helped some of you carbooters! See you there :-)

plenty of bargains to be got at the uniyoke market, wexford, but he needs to bring the entrance fees down both for sellers and buyers, he charges 3 euro in for shoppers and 30 for a car. this is a bit steep ……so eddie , drop your fees and the uniyoke may take off again as it has got scarce of stalls.

Went to Harlequins recently, was held on all weather pitch which was nice and clean, good facilities, very civilized, even had a tea/coffee ‘waiter’ service. Love it! Hope it takes off, bouncy castles were great for kids..fun Saturday afternoon idea for families!

Hi, just to say I was at the Greystones car boot last Sunday – important to be there early as they turned some cars away! I guessed right by turning up at 06.30 to be safe.
It would be a good idea to add to the listing that there are no toilets available on site. The school is not open so you have to walk up the seafront to the public toilets (about 4-5 minutes/cost 50c) which to be fair were very clean. But important information if you are there on your own as I was! Everyone was very friendly, fee (even for my jeep) was €13. Probably too many sellers which made it quiet enough plus hard to leave before 3pm. With nice weather it’s a good day as the location is very nice on the seafront.

    • Thanks Louise – Point about toilets added to listing. Hope you had a worthwhile day.

If doing ST Davids boot sale beware the public toilets close to the school is very often out of order so you have to walk to the coffee shop or supervalue takes about 15 mins.

  23. STRAFFAN Car Boot Sale: Sat 24-Sep-2011.
Went there yesterday for first time. We were made to feel most welcome. The organisers have put a LOT of thought into organising this event. Pay on arrival, (€15); then you are given a numbered disk which is the number of your stall’s plot, (which was 12.5 feet wide and on grass). It’s very well run*. Easy start from 08:00, and public from 10:00 to 14:00. About 50 sellers and a goodly number of customers. We lost a sale at €10 because we ran out of change for a €50 near the end. Doh! Must increase the float for the next Sale here, which is on 22-Oct-2011. We will be back.
*A minor niggle is that there is no loo on the site; you have to walk to their local GAA Clubhouse. Unfortunately, only one communal loo, and the door did not lock. Yikes!!

Thank you for this site, and for providing the feedback option. It’s just great to have such a facility.

Balbriggan market seems to have lost a lot of the stallholders, he could do with dropping his fees (20 euro for a car) and use some money to provide clean toilets. They should also allow other food vans in as everyone is sick of the same burger van (part of organisers group).
Love this site as it has the best up-to-date listings anywhere. Keep up the good work

Went this morning at 5.30am and was joined by a long Q of cars and vans ,so would highly recommend you arrive before 6am to get a good spot. Very very busy from the time you arrive , as other traders are also looking for bargains.Well worth a visit selling or buying. I did very well and will be back to sell more.

This market is in a car park behind the pet shop- which is past the Lidl store on the road out of Cavan town, towards the roundabout to Ballinagh. I was there today for the first time, arrived at 9am, paid €10 at the gate and directed to a space near the back of the carpark. Brought my own kitchen table and had people gathering around having a look before I had the stuff on the table! Sold bits and pieces of clothes, shoes, handbags, jewellery, made about €60 in 4 hours, drizzly rain didn’t help, small crowds, about 40 stalls?? of both traders and cars. Couldn’t find toilets, no signs up that I could see. Might try another Sunday or Longford next time…

STRAFFAN CAR BOOT SALE TOMORROW SAT. 3-Dec. 2011.

We’ve been going to Straffan Co. Kildare C.B. Sale this year. Very nicely run, apart from there being no loo on the site. Reasonable number of punters, and very nice and helpful sellers. Lots of good quality stuff. Opens about 08:00 and runs to about 14:00 (02:00pm). €15 cars. NFI for us apart from being there as sellers.
    C u there. Ron & Lisa.

  37. Balbriggan carboot. To pay a visit to the toilets are a treat, you are greeted with that dirty old mat at the door, If I had running water I would give it a face lift and wash my hands after for the next stage, which is the good old burger. May be this New Year we might get some more food stalls to choose from I wonder, so be prepared for 2012 and bring your own water to wash up for the same good old burger.

Really enjoying your website for the last few months! Am very sporadic car booter – if the weather is nice and it’s not too early, I’ll throw the bags and boxes into the car… Did the Merchants Yard (Dublin 3) in October. Was told then, no more outside selling, but stalls indoors @ € 20.00. First time ever, I did not make my stall fee back – and I wasn’t the only one. Might have improved by now, but put me off for the next few weeks.

anyone any comments on the Merchants Yard carboot, has it improved? I did it when it was free for stallholders but there was no footfall and parking was a problem for people, also it was awkward to find as no signs up anywhere….

    BLESSINGTON CAR BOOT SALES

Blessington re-started for 2012 last Sunday, 12th Feb.

Next sale is 2nd Sunday in March, i.e 11-Mar-2012.

I’m told by the organisers that there will be NO Blessington Car Boot sale in April, as the second Sunday, the 8th, is Easter Sunday.

Therefore, the next Blessington Car Boot sale after March will be on 13-May-2012.

Please pass the word around that the April sale will NOT be held this year. Thanks.

    NEWCASTLEWEST CO. LIMERICK

I feel that Newcastlewest carboot should get a mention. I have ‘set up’ stall there a few times and it is really great. It’s indoor and outdoor , only 8 euro for a car , they charge more for van’s. I’m not sure how much for the public. There is a good mixture of stalls selling everything and some good bargains ( I know , I also buy a lot there). There are stalls selling tea, coffee, soup, cake, toasted sandwiches etc. The toilets are always spotless and the organisers are very friendly people. It finishes early enough though, around 1.30 or 2.00.
I’m going to Fethard in Co. Tipp on Sunday next for the first time, its indoor and outdoor but I hope the weather is fine!

This is the best web page for carbooters , keep up the good work!

  48. Thanks for the good review by Clair and Lorraine of the Newcastlewest, Co. Limerick car boot sale and Indoor Market. It’s a fundraiser for local community radio station WL102fm and we advertise it heavily on the station as well as in the local papers. We charge €7 for cars, €10 for all sizes of vans and €2 for buyers with children under 16 free but must be accompanied by an adult. We run once a month and the next one is on Sunday, March 18 so do come along and see for yourselves.

just to mention Killinarden car boot sale is on every sunday and while the location is good with ample space for traders , well organized but short on punters and not having access to a toilet is a bit of a negative point. Lets hope they take the toilet issue on board. Drop in and have a browse around . Its worth a visit. Everything from a needle to an anchor.

I do believe that it is better to have some prices made out before the actual sale this will help you be organised but be willing to negotiate on your prices for multiple buys and also to dropping your prices near the end of the actual sale. Decide on what you won’t part with unless you get your rock bottom price, then decide what are the items that you really have no more use/space for.
Wishing you all the best in your first car boot sale.

    Hi Mum,

I endorse everything that Sarah has said, and would add a couple of other “pointers”.

1.) Most car boots start early for sellers [6;30>7:30]. However, for some (Dundrum/Wesley in Dublin) you would need to be there before 6:00.

2.) When you arrive, and start to set-up, you will be beset by a number of buyers, (including some other Car-Booters. Tallaght, South Co. Dublin, C-B is especially noted for this happening), who will hassle you into selling your best items at knock-down prices. Hence, as Sarah says, you need to know what to ask for your items, AND what you are prepared to sell them for. Remember, it is a market, and haggling is all part of the fun(?). (We have seen some items we let go early appear on other Car-Booters’ stalls later, and, of course, at a higher price!)

3.) While it is not necessary to have a table to sell, it does seem to be the norm now. Try to have a helper with you, at least for your first sale. You will see many ladies selling on their own at Car-Boots. But it is my observation that usually they are very experienced and well able to hold their own in any negotiation/situation.

4.) Don’t put all your best stuff out at once. Have a “Draw” item that gets people to come to have a serious look at it. They may not buy it, but they will take a closer look at the rest of your stall. When its sold, put out another “Goodie”. You will sell more if people congregate around your stall, but don’t get into a long conversation with one customer.

5.) Make sure to chat to the sellers beside you when you arrive. While they will be busy with their own stuff, they will usually keep an eye on how you are doing and help out if required.

6.) Bring enough of a cash float with you, in small notes and €2s/€1s and 50Cs. We don’t price anything below 50C. It saves a whole amount of bother giving change. Remember, you will most likely have to pay for your stall (€10>€20) before you make your first sale.

7.) Be careful of someone offering a large note €50/€20 for a small purchase. Check notes with your finger-nail; there is a small rough area on every (genuine) note, which you should feel before you hand over change.Use a cash-bag on a belt around you(not sure of the correct term). Hide large notes you take in away safely and quickly.

8.) Dress warmly; bring a flask and some Sambos. Its very easy to spend a lot of your hard-earned take on food at the Car-Boot. Resist buying from other stalls unless you spot a REAL bargain. Remember, you are there to de-clutter your own house; not to keep it in the same state.

9.) Bring a sheet of plastic to throw over your stall when (not if) it showers. If it starts to really rain, pack up early so that your stock does not get too wet.

10.) A lot of Car-Booters sit on the edge of the opened boot of their car. Its a sore place to sit without a cushion, or you could bring a folding chair with you.

11.) Check with the organisers (or here) about on-site toilets. We went back to one Car-Boot and found that the toilets were locked due to refurbishments, and NO alternative provision had been made. Big ‘Black Mark’ there.

Guess that’s enough for now. Car-Booting is normally great fun. We have met a load of lovely people since we started, both buyers and sellers.

    Best wishes.

    Hi Suzanne,
Glad you found my hints of use to you. I’d also add that damp-proof footwear is advisable, as many sites are on grass. Even in warm dry weather, the over-night dew can works its way through light shoes. We change into comfy boots when we arrive at the car boot.

I agree with you about this web-site. Thank You, Web-Master!
